Some of Siragêr’s jewelry is inspired by the art period Swedish Grace that refers to an art movement in architecture and design from about 1910 into the 1930s in Sweden. Elegance and exclusivity are characteristics of the style of the Swedish Grace. Inspiration was taken from the classic ancient forms and ornamentation. Famous Swedish buildings from this period are the Match Palace, Stockholm Public Library and City Hall. Swedish Grace was a Swedish variant of Art Deco.

One architect that was active during the Swedish Grace period was the Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund (1885-1940). Asplund was the architect behind for example Stockholm Public Library and Skandia Cinema in Stockholm. During his time he became obsessed with the architectural space and how the inner roof should “disappear” and to build a room without any limits or without distance.

He mixed  Scandinavian, Greek, Roman and Egyptian style features when designing Stockholm Public Library. On the facade of the building you can see that Gunnar Asplund has been inspired by Egypt by having a decor with Egyptian features. When entering the building you can see the history of the Iliad.

Gunnar Asplund got inspiration from his trips around the mediterranean and Tunis which affected his design language. He experienced the large architectural space, the sky over the wide landscape, the light, proximity and distance.

Stockholm Public Library - a piece of jewelry in the middle of the city.

When visiting Stockholm City Library by the architect Gunnar Asplund the woman Siragêr was seeing symbols from the history of the world. When she opened the doors to the library she was pushing a handle with the motif of Adam and Eve, the denizens of the Garden of Eden. The story continues with the entrance showing scenes from the Iliad. Stairs was leading Siragêr from the entrance to the upper floor where Siragêr was met by a room full of books with a high ceiling that made the room feel like an endless sky.

Along the corridors in the library Siragêr was seeing a decor on the walls. It looked like a flower and a compass at the same time. Siragêr was feeling inspired so she started to sketch.

Skandia Cinema - a hidden treasure

Siragêr loves to go to the cinema, especially Skandia Cinema, since she enters a world full of impressions and hidden treasures. When entering the salon at the Skandia Cinema in Stockholm Siragêr is seeing a red landscape. The chairs are upholstered in a beautiful red color and it looks like the ceiling is endless. On the sides are the walls decorated with flower details and when looking up she sees a woman who guards the room.

Siragêr is so curious so she continues on to the upper floor where she is met by several doors. She wonders which one she will enter. But something is stuck with her, the playful geometric shapes make her feel that she is entering another world. Suddenly the movie starts and Siragêr starts to entering this world far away that is like a hidden treasure.

"The message with the collection is that we shouldn’t take our surroundings for granted. You can see so much more than you think."

Impressions

After visiting Stockholm Public Library and Skandia Cinema in Stockholm, Siragêr got so inspired so she started to sketch. She took her pencil and suddenly the wall decor at the Stockholm Public Library became a jewelry piece called “Flower Compass”. The decors at the doors at Skandia Cinema became the jewelry “Cinema”.

The message with the collection is that we shouldn’t take our surroundings for granted. You can see so much more than you think.

Siragêr thinks it’s important to stop the time sometimes and just study the beautiful surroundings.Siragêr thinks that Gunnar Asplund’s work makes the time stop for a while. The buildings with their stunning large architectural space and beautiful decors makes her as a visitor to stop and study. This is just what Siragêr wants, she wants people to look up more and by wearing the jewelry inspired by Swedish Grace women around the world will start to rediscover their inner beauty.
